KAREN FEEDING THE OTHERS 10PM $7 |
JUCIFER
is boyfriend/girlfriend team of Ed Livengood and Amber Valentinve. Livengood
slams his kit like a maniac while Valentine cranks out a virtual sonic
guitar assault. Rising out of a new wave of independent music from Athens,
GA, JUCIFER produces a sound that resembles REM about as much as the New
York Dolls resembled Barry Manilow. Alternating between atmospherics and
frantic punk-metal, the boyfriend-girlfriend team began impressing locals
with their performing skills in 1995.
Opening are DC post punkers THE OTHERS. Though their name may harken back to an era of bands like The Misfits or The Cramps, when punk was a simple matter of angst set to the vicious banging of three repeated chords, THE OTHERS offer a sound and an energy of varied influences. Their pop-punk inherits more musical density than the simplistically styled punk of the 1970s, but is much more melodically aggressive than their 1980s progenitors like The Cure or The Smiths. |
